Ceramic Alebrijes
Students learned about the true origin of Alebrijes and the two different types from Mexico City and Oaxaca. They then chose one type and sketched a design to follow. When they had a design, the students translated it into three dimensions using clay. While their creations were firing in the kiln, they added color to their design on paper to prepare for painting. They used bright acrylic paints to add colors and patterns to their Alebrijes using inspiration from the traditional wood carvings.
